Argos announces potential store closures as part of digital overhaul
HIGH street and online retailer Argos will close or relocate at least 75 stores and reduce the catalogue circulation over the next five years as it looks to concentrate on the online side of its operation.
The chain, owned by Home Retail Group, plans to downsize its 739-shop network, shift stores to shorter leases and use them as pick up points as part of the new business plan.
The firm has not earmarked particular shops for closure and has said it will look at stores on a case by case basis as leases come up for renewal.
As well as 28 North-East stores, Argos has a distribution centre in Darlington which employs about 470 people at the Faverdale Industrial Estate.
