NORTH-East wind turbine manufacturer TAG Energy Solutions has appointed experienced engineering professional Mike Foster as its new chairman.
He was, until 2011, chief executive of FTSE 250 company, Charter International plc where he had been on the board since 2000, initially as a Non-Executive Director, before becoming chief executive in 2006.
Mr Foster has been the chairman of listed companies in India and South Africa, and is now active in a range of non-executive roles and industrial early stage companies.
A University of Cambridge graduate in Engineering and Electrical Sciences, a Solicitor and a Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, he has an extensive background in engineering management.
After graduating he qualified as a lawyer and worked for GKN plc in law and corporate finance before moving to Trafalgar House and Kvaerner where he was responsible for the Kvaerner Engineering and Construction Division.
During his tenure as an executive with Charter International plc, the company’s turnover trebled and the profitability increased more than 500 per cent in the period up to 2008.
Mr Foster said: “The offshore renewables sector has the potential to be very successful for companies such as (Billingham-based) TAG, which offer effective supply chain solutions. As activities in the sector gain momentum the opportunities for UK suppliers should grow considerably creating a positive future for our industry.”
