Stagecoach Group says summer weather has delivered increased passengers
A BUS operator, which runs services across the North-East, says it has benefited from the summer weather after seeing passenger numbers increase in its regional division.
Stagecoach Group, who operate buses in Teesside, Hartlepool, Sunderland and Newcastle, revealed its UK services have seen a sharp rise in year-on-year trade, with people taking advantage of the sunshine to enjoy day trips.
The company, whose 8,000 buses and coaches take 2.5 million passengers every day, said it has seen a 4.5 per cent growth in revenue, with commercial work bringing it higher revenues than concessionary and school work.
The firm, who earlier this year revealed UK regional bus profits were higher at £165m, says it London division is also performing well, with its UK rail business seeing revenues fall slightly against the huge swell caused by last year's London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
A report said: “We have maintained a strong financial position and our overall trading is good, with the future remaining positive.”
