Work starts on £6.6m hub for small firms
BUILDING work starts this week on a new £6.6m centre for small firms.
Washington Business Centre, which is 50 per cent part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will be built on the Sunderland Enterprise Zone.
The 56,000 sq ft project is being delivered by Barmston Developments and GMI Construction for Sunderland City Council to help house the next generation of small and medium-sized enterprises.
It is the second major development at the Turbine Business Park following Barmston's completion of the £22.5m warehouse for Vantec Europe earlier this year. The warehouse, which houses parts for manufacturers including Nissan and Cummins, was the first development to take place on any of the UK’s new enterprise zones that were set up by the Coalition to attract inward investment.
The new business centre is due to open next year.
