A GLASSMAKER says it wants to create new North-East jobs after strengthening its order book.
Fastglass makes and supplies glass for window firms across the region, and says it has already met ambitious targets despite only being set up in February.
The company, founded by John Davies, who was made redundant in the recession, has already taken on seven workers, including an apprentice, and wants to double staff numbers.
He said: "I am surprised how quickly it’s taken off.
"I did a business plan for the first two years and after six months we had reached where I was expecting to be in a year.
"Demand has far exceeded all our expectations, and we are continuously investing to increase our capacity."
Councillor Harry Trueman, Sunderland City Council deputy leader, said Fastglass was another example of the area's industrial strength.
He said: "The area has a long and proud manufacturing history, from shipbuilding to the Nissan plant, and Fastglass has really benefited from local support."
