Tata reveals plans to close soda ash factory threatening 220 posts
THE owner of a steel firm, which employs more than 1,500 North-East workers, could cut jobs at one of its leading chemical plants.
Tata Group has revealed plans to close a soda ash factory, putting about 220 jobs at risk.
Under the proposals, the company, which owns everything from Jaguar Land Rover to the Tetley teabag factory in Eaglescliffe, near Stockton, would close its soda ash operation, in Winnington, Cheshire.
It would retain and expand a neighbouring sodium bicarbonate plant and retain its soda ash and sodium bicarbonate factories in Lostock, near Bolton.
