Sone Products, in Stanley, County Durham, will make 66 million toothpicks
A SPECIALIST beauty industry plastics firm has secured an annual £200,000 deal to make millions of toothpicks for Scandinavia.
Sone Products, based in Stanley, County Durham, is working with dental product supplier Curaden International AG to produce two styles of coloured plastic toothpicks.
The contract will see Sone make more than 66 million toothpicks and plastic containers.
It comes after the firm, which employs about 130 workers, bought £700,000 injection blow moulding equipment to increase production of its mascara, eyeliner and lip gloss packaging.
The company makes the main body and lids for mascara containers before inserting brushes and branding for global companies.
It made its 100 millionth product last year since becoming an independent manufacturer.
Tony Burnell, Sone's business development manager, said the deal was a major milestone in the company's continuing growth.
He said: “Working on behalf of Curaden gives us a great opportunity to demonstrate the full extent of our services as well as our growing capabilities and competitiveness.
“We are confident of building a strong and lasting relationship with them and many others in the dental and oral hygiene sectors.”
Richard Thomas, Curaden’s international sales director, said: “Sone offered us better and cost effective production and delivery, and they have been extremely professional at all levels, giving us a seamless transition process to bring the work to the UK.”
