Northgene Limited, in Newcastle, hopes to expand services
A COMMERCIAL DNA testing company says it hopes to expand its services after securing Ministry of Justice (MOJ) work.
Northgene Limited, based in Newcastle, has been accredited to perform paternity, maternity and siblingship tests for changes in birth certificates, inheritance cases and identification of unknown bodies, but also MOJ cases and parentage tests for immigration applications.
The firm, founded in 1996 by Professor Sir John Burn, is one of the UK's first commercial DNA testing firms to receive notification from MOJ, and already undertakes legal relationship testing for coroners, family law solicitors, local councils and the public.
Bosses say the MPJ accreditation will allow it to expand its in-house testing work and embrace extra forensic DNA testing services for the legal system.
Marie Whitehouse, managing director, said: “We are delighted to be one of the very few UK-based accredited laboratories able to perform DNA testing tests on behalf of MOJ.
“Our team pride themselves on an exceptional quality of service and the ability to really understand and accurately interpret the complexities surrounding DNA analysis.”
