Fiona Hall says EU deal with Canada will boost North-East trade
A NORTH-EAST MEP has welcomed the free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Canada.
The deal is aimed at increasing employment and growth, while lowering tariffs and streamlining regulations.
Fiona Hall, Liberal Democrat MEP, said the agreement will boost trade in the North-East.
She said: “This deal will open new doors for businesses to grow and expand and export their produce across the Atlantic.
“Regional exports to Canada already total £206m and look set to grow in light of the agreement.
“This trade deal proves the combined negotiating power of the EU helps us create and deliver jobs here in our region.
“We would never have this level of bargaining ability if we were outside the EU.”
