BT says sports coverage has made "confident" start
BT Sport has revealed more than two million customers have signed up to its TV service, which it launched to compete against rival Sky.
The company signed a £738m deal to show 38 Premier League games every season, which it says helped add 156,000 new broadband users by the end of September.
Bosses, who recently broadcast Newcastle United's game against Liverpool, revealed six-month pre-tax profits of £948m, a drop of 13 per cent from the same time last year, which it says slipped due to its sport investment.
Chief executive Gavin Patterson, said: “These are good results and this has been our strongest ever quarter for fibre take-up with Openreach net connections up 70 per cent. “BT Sport has made a confident start, with more than two million customers signed up.
“BT retail’s business division saw good growth again in IT services, with BT Global Services and BT Wholesale both generating strong order books.”
