A PLASTIC container firm supplying the beauty industry says its order book is secure after winning a deal to help combat crime.

Sone, based in Stanley, County Durham, picked up a deal to make 50,000 containers to be used for applying security marking on goods.

The work is for SmartWater Technology, which makes forensic products used by police to track criminals.

The firm makes covert, colourless solutions that are detected under ultra violet light and used to identify stolen property.

Sone already makes mascara, eyeliner and lip gloss packaging for global companies, and millions of toothpicks to Scandinavia.

Bosses say its initial order for 50,000 containers has already been supplied, with potential for more work in 2014.

Tony Burnell, Sone's business development manager, said: “Working on behalf of clients such as SmartWater is a great reflection of our ability to provide a range of services and deliver high quality products.

“By providing value added services, we become almost an in-house extension to their business, and that gives people confidence they are dealing with a supplier who really cares about its services and products.”

Phil Cleary, SmartWater chief executive, added: “It's crucial for us that we have a reliable and consistent supply of containers and applicators for our forensic products that are of the highest quality.

“We are confident this relationship with Sone will provide exactly what we need.”
