BOSSES from a North-East port visited a French harbour to forge links with industry leaders.
Representatives from the Port of Sunderland went to Saint-Nazaire, the city’s twin town.
The party included Matthew Hunt, Port of Sunderland director, and aimed to offer an insight into European commercial opportunities.
The cities were twinned in 1953 due to their maritime and shipbuilding heritage.
Mr Hunt said: “We were given the opportunity to visit Saint-Nazaire after its mayor, Joel Batteux, came to Port of Sunderland last year.
"He was impressed with its development and potential.
“The visit was an extremely beneficial insight into the ways in which other European port’s operate and really helped us to review our renewable energy offering and understand one another’s vision for the future.”
Saint-Nazaire is the leading port on France’s Atlantic seaboard, extending across a 40-mile stretch along the Loire Estuary.
