A CONSTRUCTION firm says it is committed to creating North-East jobs after being appointed to an industry body.

Graham Construction is now part of the £1bn North-East Procurement Organisation (Nepo) framework.

It was only one of eight firms appointed, with the framework covering Nepo's requirement for established construction firms to carry out work across the region.

Neil McFarlane, Graham regional director, said: “We identified the North-East as an important growth area for the company a few years ago and this latest success underlines the potential in the region.

“Indeed, the latest figures indicate the the value of construction output in the North-East is at its highest level since 2008.

“The region is set to be one of the fastest growing markets in the construction industry over the next three years.

"We as a company are in a fantastic position to support that growth by creating jobs on the ground strengthened by the experience and expertise of our UK-wide operation.”

Last year, Graham completed a £3m refurbishment of Witham Hall, in Barnard Castle, County Durham, and is building new student accommodation for Newcastle University.

Mr McFarlane added: “Despite market uncertainty in recent years, our order books have remained busy and we have grown our workforce and increased our North-East presence.”
