A FAMILY-RUN glazing firm has created new jobs after moving into a new factory.

North-East and Cumbria Windows and Doors designs and makes upvc and aluminium windows, doors and conservatories for the commercial and residential sectors.

To meet increasing demand, it has moved into a new factory in Washington, Wearside, after previously working from smaller units.

The factory move has allowed it to create five new jobs, taking its workforce to 21.

Bosses say key to its expansion is the creation new product ranges and bringing its glass-making in-house.

The company, which was founded a decade ago by managing director Ed Ramshaw and wife Heather, has also seen turnover rise to £1.3m.

Mrs Ramshaw, financial director, said: “That figure will continue to grow, and we're not looking at a cap on how many people we employ now we have a factory to grow in the future.

“In the last 18 months, we have created a glass production unit and introduced new designs, and are trying to build everything under one roof.

“We started with upvc frames, then expanded into aluminium and now the production of bi-fold doors, and are also looking at conservatory roofs in the future.”

The business has also secured a tender with Sunderland City Council to maintain, repair and renew aluminium windows and doors.

The council supported the company through its relocation.

Councillor Paul Watson, Sunderland City Council leader, added: “We share its confidence it will continue to grow and create more jobs and wealth for Sunderland and the region’s economy.”
