Report says workers believe age is now harming careers
WORKERS as young as 40 fear their careers are stalling because of their age, a new report has said.
A survey of 2,000 people over-40 says one in ten feel ignored by managers, with a further one in seven seeing younger staff promoted ahead of them after they hit 40.
The research, carried out by law firm Slater and Gordon, which has offices in Newcastle, added 54-years-old was the age when workers feel their career prospects are most affected.
Edward Cooper, head of employment law at Slater and Gordon, said: “With people living longer than ever before, most expect to be able to work until they want to.
“Very few businesses enforce a retirement age but this research shows that many will still sideline and isolate staff when they get to a certain age.”
