Sunderland College secures funding for new campus
A NORTH-EAST college says it will continue to nurture the next generation of North-East engineers and construction workers in a £29m development.
Sunderland College has secured funding to build a new campus opposite Park Lane bus station, catering for up to 2,000 students.
The building will be used to deliver vocational courses such as advanced engineering, manufacturing and construction and automotive trades.
Funding for the development came from the Skills Funding Agency, Sunderland City Council and college reserves.
Anne Isherwood, Sunderland College principal, said: “This investment is a huge boost for Sunderland and the city centre.
“The campus will provide high class facilities for learners across the region and will give us a site that will make us more aligned to the needs of local businesses.”
Councillor Paul Watson, Sunderland City Council leader, added: “The continued development of the city centre is absolutely crucial to the future of Sunderland.”
