THE Port of Tyne was the venue as the Netherlands Navy paid a visit to the region.
The port welcomed the HNLMS Walrus submarine, which spent four days in its Northumbrian Quay, in North Shields, North Tyneside.
The 68-metre long vessel is the first submarine to visit the quay in ten years.
It docked in the region to allow its crew to take a break from tactical exercises.
Mike Nicholson, Port of Tyne harbour master, said: “We regularly welcome visiting naval vessels, which both add vibrancy to the riverscape and make a positive contribution to the local economy.”
