A NORTH-EAST marine firm has carried out a dredging to improve access to its River Tees base.
Able UK says it has spent more than £250,000 on Seaton Port, near Middlesbrough.
Bosses say the work will allow larger vessels to access the site.
Neil Etherington, Able UK group development director, said: “We are undertaking a further £25m investment programme at Seaton Port, which includes an additional 187 metres of new quays.
“That will ensure we continue to maintain our position as a world leader in marine decommissioning and maintenance and upgrading of offshore rigs.
“It will also provide facilities for other activities, such as offshore wind turbine installation and handling a wide range of large project cargos.”
Earlier this month, Able missed out on a contract to scrap the wrecked Costa Concordia cruise liner.
It had applied to demolish the liner at Seaton Port but lost out to an Italian yard in Genoa, with Able bosses saying political pressure could have influenced the decision.
