CHANCELLOR George Osborne has revealed the date of his Autumn Statement.

The Autumn Statement is the second annual opportunity for the Chancellor to make major announcements on spending and present economic forecasts.

It will be delivered on Wednesday December 3.

Mr Osborne said: "The core purpose of the Treasury is to ensure the stability and prosperity of the economy.

"That is delivered by our long-term plan."

Earlier this summer, Mr Osborne told The Northern Echo the Government must do more to cut North-East unemployment.

The Chancellor spoke during a visit to Carroll and Meynell Transformers, in Eaglescliffe, near Stockton.

He said: “We have made a lot of improvements, but the job is not done, and I am the first to see that we have to keep going.

“We are not in a situation where all of the jobs and prosperity is going to London; we have created 65,000 jobs here and creating more.

“It’s fantastic to see what Hitachi is doing at Newton Aycliffe and the return of steelmaking by SSI at Redcar, and there are a lot more exciting things happening in the region.

“We are investing in the North-East through the Regional Growth Fund, the Local Growth Fund and the local enterprise zones."
