A FAMILY-RUN offshore valve maker has been praised for its exporting prowess.
BEL Valves, in Newcastle, was visited by Trade and Investment Manager, Lord Livingston.
He was given a tour around the firm’s factory and learned about its £15m expansion plans.
The Northern Echo exclusively revealed last month how BEL, which is part of the British Engines Group, aims to create up to 100 jobs by moving into a new factory.
The company, which employs about 550 workers and makes valves for pipeline shutdowns, is switching into British Engines’ sister Rotary Power site, in South Tyneside.
Lord Livingston said: “BEL is a great example of a dynamic company growing its business through exporting.
“Increasing the number of UK businesses that sell overseas is integral to the Government’s long-term economic plan to build a stronger, more competitive economy.
“Last year, North-East companies contributed to the region’s economic success with almost £12bn in exports, and firms wanting to export should contact UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).”
Neil Kirkbride, BEL Valves’ chief executive, added: “We are specialist engineers and aim to retain the most talented professionals right here in the North-East.
“We were delighted to welcome Lord Livingston and look forward to working with UKTI in the future.”
UKTI will host Export Week next month.
