A DISCOUNT supermarket chain is creating more than 30 jobs in a town rocked by redundancies.

Aldi will open a store in Guisborough, east Cleveland, on Thursday, October 9.

The outlet will deliver 31 posts.

Charlotte Morrison, Aldi store manager, said: “The new Guisborough store has been met with high levels of support.”

The store comes just a month after engineering firm Esco Corporation announced its foundry will close in the town, with the loss of 65 jobs.

Bosses blamed the decision on a sluggish market, triggered by a sharp fall in demand for its products, which include teeth used on excavator buckets.
