A NORTH-EAST port operator says it has enjoyed a record cargo week.
PD Ports, which runs Teesport, says it handled more than 12,000 twenty foot equivalent units (TEU) of cargo last week.
Bosses say the figure is the highest it has handled since a £16.7m investment in its container terminal in 2012.
That expanded its capacity by a further 215,000 TEU, taking its total Teesport room to 650,000 TEU.
Frans Calje, PD Ports managing director for unitised and portcentric logistics, said: “We have seen a significant increase in container volumes following the introduction of two new shipping lines and the growing support of the existing and new customers that use the port on an ongoing basis.
“Our team at Teesport have performed exceptionally well with the uplift in volume and this week has shown what the Port is capable of.”
