A FIRM of accountants and business advisers in York is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Clive Owen & Co LLP, which also has offices in Darlington and Durham, specialises in working with owner-managed businesses and more recently developing expertise in manufacturing, education and charity sectors.

The firm has continued to develop its expertise in taxation planning for both individuals and companies and in recent times has had considerable experience obtaining research and development tax credits for local businesses.

Last year, Jonathan Doyle, who started as a trainee with the firm, was promoted to manager to reflect growing demand in York for the company’s education expertise, particularly helping schools and academies manage their accounts.

Across the three offices, the firm helped companies secure more than £7.6m of Research and Development Tax Credits in the last financial year.

The company has also worked on grants totally more than £114m via schemes such as the Regional Growth Fund and the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding LEP programme.

Terry Doyle, a partner who has been with the York office, since it opened said: “The financial landscape has changed over the past two decades with more and more businesses turning to us for services such as grant and IT support as well as more traditional accountancy and business advice.

“We’re pro-active and we’ve adapted with the needs of clients and that’s why we’re still going strong 20 years later.”
