A VEHICLE routing software firm is creating North-East jobs.

Route Monkey, which has an office in Gateshead, says it wants to add ten posts to its existing 30 positions.

The proposals were unveiled in a £2m expansion supported by Clydesdale Bank, which will see the company expand overseas and build on existing services in Germany, the US and Hong Kong.

The firm provides scheduling and routing software for companies such as Shell, BMW and supermarket chain Iceland, and says it can save customers’ fuel bills and administration costs.

A spokeswoman said the new jobs will be shared across Gateshead and its headquarters in Livingston, Scotland.

Colin Ferguson, Route Monkey director, added: "In addition to creating new jobs and increasing our footprint, the funding will enable us to invest in technology to continue delivering."

Last year, the company, revealed net profits of about £1.1m, compared with £400,000 in 2013.
