A POTASH firm says it has submitted more information to push forward a proposed £1.5bn mine.

Sirius Minerals wants to extract millions of tonnes of polyhalite every year under the North York Moors National Park, near Whitby.

It claims the scheme, known as the York Potash Project, could create about 1,000 jobs.

However, the development has been delayed by concerns over potential environmental impacts, and Sirius says it has now submitted more details to authorities to ease any worries.

Bosses say the information covers the mine and a mineral transport system.

The company previously revealed it wanted to move polyhalite, a form of the fertiliser potash, through a pipeline system to port operations at Wilton, near Redcar, by digging a series of trenches.

However, it then amended those plans to use underground tunnelling, which it says would substantially reduce any changes to the moors’ surface.

The vast majority of the project is expected to be determined by the North York Moors National Park Authority and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
