GERMAN cut-price supermarket chain Aldi is set to create 120 new jobs in stores across the region.

The company is recruiting for staff in Alnwick, Bede Way, Peterlee, Consett, Darlington, Dunston Road, Hartlepool, Hexham, Seaham and Tees Bay Park, Hartlepool.

A spokeswoman said it required around 40 store assistants and 70 stock assistants, as well as 5 Deputy Store Managers in the County Durham and Northumberland areas to support the growing success of existing stores, as well as a brand new store in Alnwick, which is set to open later this year.

She added: "Candidates who possess retail or people management experience are being targeted for Aldi’s Deputy Management positions.

"Within this vital role, individuals work closely with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager, and will have the responsibility of managing the store team in their absence. Deputy Store Manager positions start from 20 to 30 hours per week, with a starting salary of £9.15 per hour rising to £10.75 per hour, plus £3.95 extra per hour when managing the store."

Steve Barnett, Aldi Regional Managing Director for the region, said: “The North East is a key area of growth for us, and our recent expansion has created an immediate requirement for additional store staff within our existing and forthcoming stores.

“We’re looking to attract applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds, including supermarket, fast-food and clothing chains, who can demonstrate relevant retail experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.”
