EASTERN Airways has invested in an aircraft simulator to help train pilots.

The company, which operates flights out of Durham Tees Valley Airport, has entered a partnership venture worth $12m with leading pilot training centres Pan Am International Flight Academy.

Eastern has taken delivery of a Jetstream 41 simulator at its Humberside Airport headquarters in North Lincolnshire.

Captain Matt Wood, Eastern's flight operations director, said: "No other regional airline our size has its own aircraft simulator and this new initiative demonstrates just how committed we are to further developing our pilot training by bringing specialist simulator training in-house."

Eastern employs 16 people, including pilots, cabin crew and engineers, at Durham Tees Valley Airport. Pilots will be required to train on the simulator at least twice a year.
