A firm in North Yorkshire has invested £3m in the latest equipment.

Burdon Engineering, which is tripling its workforce after securing planning permission for a £20m expansion of its offices in Stokesley, has taken delivery of its latest piece of measuring equipment.

The super-size co-ordinate measuring machine is accurate to within four thousandths of a millimetre and managing director Barry Hindson hopes it will give Burdon the competitive edge.

"By investing in the very latest technology, Burdon can meet the exacting demands for precision engineering from sectors such as aerospace, medical and defence," said Mr Hindson.

"Alongside our day-to-day contracts for huge names such as Caterpillar, these investments put us in an excellent position.

"It is good news for us and for the local economy."

In January, Burdon was given planning permission to expand its offices on Stokesley Industrial Estate. The development will bring with it 150 jobs to add to Burdon's current 70-strong workforce.
