A DOG trainer aims to make youngsters more confident around dogs to reduce the risk of them being bitten.
Marie Kemp, of the Canine Care Company, at Stainton, near Barnard Castle, is behind the new scheme, which is backed by the Blue Cross animal charity.
A qualified dog trainer and behaviour counsellor, she wants to teach children to be safe around dogs.
She said: “A large number of dog bites are due to children not understanding and respecting the difference in communication between us and dogs.”
She started her own dog minding company two years ago and has recently received specialist training on aggressive dogs.
She boards dogs at her home and has competed in dog obedience classes.
