YORKSHIRE businesses are to be given advice on winning contracts for the £700m worth of goods and services being procured for the Olympic Games in London next year.

Richard Beail, nations and regions manager for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, is the headline speaker at a business event in York on Wednesday, February 16.

The event, organised by the Yorkshire Gold Business Club, is aimed at helping the region’s businesses make the most of the opportunities.

With many of the larger contracts already under way, it is an opportunity for smaller or niche businesses to learn how to capitalise on the opportunities.

In the morning, Mr Beail will highlight the opportunities available, while the conference will also hear about the business prospects around the pregames training camps, some of which are being hosted in York.

In the afternoon Jonathan Knight, chairman of the Regional Food Group, will lead a series of workshops aimed at caterers and food suppliers.

The event takes place at The Royal York Hotel and is free but registration is essential. To register, visit the Yorkshire Gold Business Club website at ygbc.co.uk
