Defendant denies kidnapping charge
 |
| Accused: Daniel Breaks |
A MAN accused of murder who
allegedly kidnapped a Chester-le-
Street couple at knifepoint has
told a court that they had just
given him a lift.
Daniel Breaks is alleged to
have tied up Mike and Joy Heaps
and driven them in their car from
their home to London.
It is claimed he went to the
home of the couple, whom he
knew, after leaving Merseyside
where he had battered his sister's
partner, Simon Sutton to death.
But Breaks said two men killed
Mr Sutton for grassing' on them
about their criminal activities.
He said earlier that to try to
protect them, he had punched
both his sister, Gwyneth, and Mr
Sutton so it would be known they
had been punished.
He said he incriminated himself
to protect his sister, and got
blood on himself before he travelled
by coach on April 16, last
year, to the Heaps' home.
He told Mr Heaps, a former probation
officer, he had killed Mr
Sutton.
Breaks, 48, said he had lived
with the Heaps for a while. He
knew Mr Heaps would tell the
police about his confession, which
is what he wanted.
"I said I was going to London
and could he give me a lift."
He denied kidnapping them.
Breaks, of Liverpool, is on trial
at Liverpool Crown Court where
he denies murder, two offences of
false imprisonment, two of kidnapping
and blackmail.
