A CEREBRAL palsy sufferer who was left trapped in his home after thieves stole his wheelchair has been given a replacement.
David Haden, 21, was left stranded after thieves took his wheelchair from the back garden of his home in Holly Hill Gardens West in Stanley.
Brian Boggin, of Kelloe, a reader of Advertiser sister paper The Northern Echo, whose wife Maureen died earlier this year, contacted the police to say he would donate Mr Haden her wheelchair.
Mr Haden said: “I am really grateful to Mr Boggin for his kindness.”
The thieves, who are believed to have been driving a white pick-up truck that was seen by a neighbour collecting scrap in the street at about noon on Monday, went through the front garden and along the side of the house, where the wheelchair had been stored.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police on 0345-6060- 365 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
