Good books for children just starting to read aren't easy to find, but this one definitely fits the bill.
It's about a junior wizard, left in charge of his great uncle's house, under the care of a small dragon called Odds-and-Ends.
Needless to say, it's full of endearingly silly magic and chaotic adventures, with lots of jokes and spells.
The book contains two separate mini-novels, both cheerfully illustrated by the author. They're easy to read and great fun. (Age 5-6)
