A FORMER school cook has celebrated her 100th birthday in style.
A card from the Queen, music, dancing and entertainment greeted Edna Robinson, her family and friends at her party.
Miss Robinson, of Darlington, brought up her six brothers from an early age after their mother died during childbirth.
Nephew Alan Robinson, 68, his wife Elsie, 63, and her niece, Audrey Middleton, 61, joined her at Springfield Care Home, Wylam Avenue, Darlington. Her family said a tot of brandy every night, and her love of horse racing had kept her mind alert.
Miss Robinson lived most of her life in Ridsdale Street, Eastbourne, Darlington. Her first job was as a kitchen hand, cooking for the children of Eastbourne School.
She worked on a sweet counter in Darlington covered market, and was also a housemaid. Her last job before retirement was in a cake shop in Darlington.
