A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl and her schoolmates have raised money for Haiti disaster victims in an unusual way.
Reid Street Primary School in Darlington held an odd socks day in aid of victims of the recent earthquake. Their efforts raised £550 for the Haiti Support Fund.
The idea for the fundraising day came from Charlotte Tupling who approached assistant headteacher Jane Knowlson.
Mrs Knowlson, who is also Charlotte’s class teacher, said: “Charlotte helped write a letter to the parents and everybody was invited to come in odd socks and make a donation.
“I felt it was really nice that the idea from this came from one of the children.
“One of the things we’re trying to develop at Reid Street is children’s global awareness.
“We’re teaching them how to support children that they will never meet but who they can help.
“The odd socks day was great fun and even the teachers and the headteacher wore odd socks.”
