Durham Ramblers will do a seven-mile walk around Summer Hill on Sunday (November 18). The walk starts at 10.30am from the Spotted Cow pub, in Elwick. For more information, call Cliff Ludman on 0191-3866866.

PIANO RECITAL: The final piano recital of 2012 in Belmont Parish Hall will be held on Friday, November 23, at 2.30pm. It will be given by Arta Arnicane, said to be popular with regulars. Her performance will include works by Haydn, De Falla, Beethoven and Schumann. Tickets, priced £6, will be available at the door or by calling 0191-3750909.

SIR ARNOLD: Former Astronomer Royal Sir Arnold Wolfendale will give a talk on the subject of Astronomers Royal at the next meeting of the Durham Astronomy Society, in Redwood Lodge, School Lane, off Church Street, Durham, on Friday (November 16) at 7.30pm. The talk is open to all. There will be a small charge for non-members.

CHARITY NIGHT: A music night in aid of St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham, will be held at Durham Rowing Club, Green Lane, Durham, on Saturday (November 17) at 7pm. TABLE TOP: A Christmas fair and table top sale will be held in Cooper Hall, Sacriston Lane, Witton Gilbert, near Durham, on Saturday (November 17) from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. There will be gifts, tombolas, raffles and stalls. Refreshments will be available.
