A VALENTINE’S Day walk is being planned to raise money for a heart scanner appeal.
Lovers, friends and others are invited to join a three-mile walk around Durham City’s riverbanks, in aid of the British Heart Foundation’s Heart of Durham Appeal on Sunday, February 14 at 1pm.
The appeal aims to raise £47,923 to buy a 2D echocardiogram for the University Hospital of North Durham, in Durham City.
The walk is being organised by Durham University Charities Kommittee (Duck) as part of its week of fundraising events.
Duck manager Mel Punton said: “This is a great opportunity for us to support a local cause and we want as many local people as possible to sign up for the walk.”
Participants are expected to raise a minimum £10 in sponsorship. It is hoped that up to 80 people will join the walk with some completing the route tied to each other in a “threelegged race” style.
The walk will begin at Durham Market Place.
Non-students hoping to take part should call Heart of Durham Appeal manager Fiona Turner on 01642-562162.
