Old man killed by train
A MAN, believed to be aged
about 90, was killed when he
was hit by a passenger train
just before 6pm on Monday at
Marske.
British Transport Police
Sergeant Nigel Ashworth said
the accident happened at a
pedestrian and farm crossing
at Cat Flatt Lane.
He said: "A man lying on the
track was hit by a passing train.
The driver went back to check
and realised he had hit the man.
He was very shocked. This is
another tragic incident involving
a member of the public and
a train driver, and is devastating
for a number of people."
Sgt Ashworth said: "We
would appeal to anyone who
saw an elderly gentleman,
either on foot or in a vehicle, at
the time to contact us."
Anyone with information is
asked to call 0800-405040.
