WELL, you either take it or leave it. This is a new theatre hybrid – boy band hits, plus boy eye candy, plus super special effects multiplied by hordes of should-know-better women equals bums on seats.
For those of you who think that Relight My Fire is a random request for more matches, look away now: this is not for you. This is a super shameless bandwagon show (and was written by, among others, a Shameless writer, Danny Brocklehurst).
The plot may be thinner than a Lycra thong, but there are plenty of laughs, most directed at the comedy on stage. Some of the audience seemed to be under the misconception that this was going to deliver All That, so there was the odd cry of “Gerrum off!”.
The good-natured cast take sexual objectification in their stride, happy to sell their souls for a season of (sort of) superstardom.
In the beginning, we find the boys broke and starting up a Take That tribute band. They turn from buffoon to buff quicker than you can whistle It Only Takes a Minute Girl to sort out extra marital issues, multiple sexuality concerns and some chronic bad dancing.
The stage is brimming with talent including a winsome Tom Bradley, as a weedy dreamboat, and Aimie Atkinson, a former BBC talent competition winner.
The audience has an absolute blast, though it is a shame that the show misses out Rule the World, Take That’s mega hit, thanks to X Factor.
The production team have assembled all the finest parts for a crowd-pleasing show.
Take That and party.
