By Ian Noble, Reporter (Shildon and Spennymoor)
A PETROL station worker scared off a would-be robber who tried to steal the business' takings.
The crook targeted the woman at Thinford Garage, on the A167 near Spennymoor, as she sat in her car after cashing up.
The masked robber tried to gain entry to the attendant’s black Renault Clio around 9.45pm on Thursday, October 11.
The woman sounded the horn and the offender ran off towards the nearby McDonald’s restaurant.
The petrol station attendant was left shaken, but unhurt.
The man was wearing a dark grey hooded top and a balaclava plus blue tracksuit bottoms and was of average height.
Anyone who can help with police enquiries should call PC Gordon Reid, at Spennymoor CID, on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
