Newton Ayliffe school puts on a 'good' show

A SCHOOL that has seen its Ofsted ranking rise from Satisfactory to Good celebrated with a performing arts extravaganza this week.

Greenfields Community College, a specialist performing arts school, staged the event to showcase the exceptional talents of its pupils and to thank partner organisations, including primary schools, town councillors and artists, for their help over the last year.

Among the many positive observations listed in his report, the Ofsted inspector highlighted the positive attitude and high attendance of pupils, extensive programme of extra-curricular activities and improved exam results.

“Teaching is good and sometimes outstanding,” he said. “Inadequate teaching has been eradicated.”

Headteacher David Priestley said it was wonderful to see the hard work of staff and students rewarded.

“I think that I am most proud that the inspectors recognised our initiatives to make a difference to the life choices of children and to improve the quality of teaching,” he said. “Today is about celebrating this with our community partners who helped bring it about.”
