Be a Santa to a senior
A CARE company worker is launching a new initiative appealing for Darlington residents and businesses to ‘be a Santa to a senior’ this Christmas.
The scheme involves shops and businesses displaying a Christmas tree on their premises which contains gift request tags from local elderly people who are facing the festive season alone.
Customers can buy the gifts to put under the tree which will then be delivered to the elderly resident.
Diane Chandler of Home Instead Senior Care is introducing the scheme in the town and hopes that local businesses and shoppers will get behind it.
“There a lot of elderly people living on their own that just don’t see anybody over the festive period,” she said.
“People can be as generous as they want, we know money is tight, but just a little box of chocolates can make a real difference to somebody.
“This really is about the local community coming together.”
Mrs Chandler is already working with local charities and older citizens groups to identify Darlington residents who would benefit from the scheme.
Any retailers interested in supporting the scheme can contact Mrs Chandler on 01325-467833 or email email@example.com
