CAR CRASH: A MAN has been taken to hospital after his car smashed into some metal railings this afternoon.
It is understood his Mazda 323 veered across the left lane of Parkgate, in Darlington, and hit the metal railings opposite Darlington Magistrates’ Court.
He has been taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital after the crash, which happened at around 1:45pm today. The driver’s daughter was also in the car, but she was uninjured.
It is feared he was taken ill at the wheel during the incident, which did not involve any other vehicles.
Parkgate is closed in both directions until further notice.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Police on 101.

SNATCHED BABY: A man and a woman arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a four-month-old baby from social services have been bailed pending further enquiries.
But Durham Police today released the pair into the custody of Northumbria Police, who wish to speak to them regarding alleged offences in their force area.

SNATCHED BABY: Social services say they are "extremely pleased" at the return of a four-month-old baby girl, who was found in a Barnard Castle pub last night.
Rachael Shimmin, Durham County Council's corporate director of children and adult services, said its primary concern throughout had been the safety of the "vulnerable little girl".
A man and a woman remain in police custody in connection with the incident.

Police are searching hedgerows in the Adelaide Terrace area, of Shildon, Co Durham, as they investigate a burglary. The break-in took place at Forcett, near Richmond, North Yorks, on Saturday, October 27. A 47-year-old Bishop Auckland man was arrested on Tuesday, October 30, and he is in police custody.

SNATCHED BABY: Durham Police are continuing to question a man and a woman in connection with the suspected kidnap of their four-month-old daughter from social services care in Stanley.
The man and the woman, who were arrested last night, remain in custody at separate County Durham police stations. They are expected to be questioned later today.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY: Cleveland Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery on Norton High Street which happened on Saturday 27th October.
A 51-year-old woman was walking along the High Street in the direction of The Green at around 3.30pm. She was level with Millbeck Care Home when she was approached by a man who tried to grab her handbag.
The man used such force as to pull the woman over, causing an injury to her knee. He ran off in the direction of The Green before turning off into a small alley off the High Street.
The man is described as a white male, aged between 17 and 27 years old, of medium build, around 6ft tall with brown hair which was short at the back and collar length, cut into layers. He was wearing a grey coloured jacket and grey coloured bottoms, which were possibly tracksuit bottoms.

Campaigners may have lost the first round of their battle to stop a huge waste incinerator to be built near Knaresborough - but they don't appear to have lost hope.
County councillors yesterday gave the go-ahead to the £1.4bn facility - which will serve the entire county - but protestors now plan to campaign hard to get the issue "called in" by the Secretary of State and seem confident they will be able to persuade a public inquiry to throw the plan out.

DERBY ARRESTS: Five men were arrested around last night's Wear-Tees derby but police have praised the behaviour of the majority of fans.
The arrests were: four for alcohol related offences and one on suspicion of assault.
Middlesbrough beat Sunderland 1-0, knocking the Black Cats out of the Capital One Cup.
