CHILDREN from the North-East have been learning about the significance of Remembrance Day ahead of this weekend’s commemoration services.
The Poppy Bus visited four primary schools in the Stanley area on Wednesday, November 7 to give special assemblies.
It is co-ordinated by the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Go North-East and stopped at Greenland Primary School, Bloemfontein Primary School, Burnside Primary School and South Stanley Primary School.
Diane Abbott, headteacher of Bloemfontein Primary School, said: “The children responded very well and asked lots of good questions.
“They found it very interesting and it gave them an awareness of the significance of the Poppy Appeal.
“They got to see the work the Army actually do, which is very different from what they see on television or what play in games.”
