A MAN has died after suffering serious injuries in a crash on a busy North-East road.

Michael John Fell, of Toft Hill, near Bishop Auckland, was driving along the A68 at Etherley Bank, close to his home when he collided with a van at about 5.15pm on Wednesday (November 7) evening.

The 29-year-old, who worked as a barman in Bishop Auckland, was in a black Renault Clio heading south towards West Auckland, when for an unknown reason it crossed over into the opposite carriageway.

It collided with a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

A former pupil of Toft Hill Primary School and St John’s School, Bishop Auckland, Mr Fell suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 55-year-old male van driver, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was taking to Darlington Memorial Hospital with internal injuries described as “serious but not life threatening.”
