More than 200 people attended the service of remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony in Sedgefield, County Durham, this morning.

Today the communities of South Tyneside stood proudly together to remember and honour the borough’s war heroes. 

A parade marched down from South Shields Town Hall to Westoe War Memorial, where a number of official dignitaries and associations lay wreaths of remembrance.

Those dignitaries included Councillor Eileen Leask, The Mayor of South Tyneside; The Mayoress of South Tyneside, Councillor Olive Puncheon; The Leader of South Tyneside Council, Councillor Iain Malcolm; The Chief Executive of South Tyneside Council, Mr Martin Swales; The Rt Hon David Miliband MP and Vice Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Mr Fred Hoult.

Councillor Eileen Leask, The Mayor of South Tyneside, said: “I’m very proud of the way the people of South Tyneside came out in their numbers to help remember our fallen heroes.

“It’s important that we never forget the invaluable work the Armed Forces deliver on our behalf and the immense level of bravery they show when serving Queen and Country.

"It was fitting that the sun shone brightly in the sky, as we all bowed our heads in memory and celebration of those people’s achievements.”

HUNDREDS of people attended this year’s Remembrance Day service in Stockton.
The town’s mayor, Lynne Apedaile, said there were more people lining the High Street than for a number of years.
Following the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph an innovative service was held at Stockton Parish Church.
Coun Apedaile, who took the salute, said: “We had a power point presentation in the church which commemorated those we have lost in recent years as well as in times past. It was very moving. There were interviews with both people serving in our armed forces now and veterans. It really made it relevant to families whose men and women are serving today. I’m told that as well as more people there were more wreaths laid than for a long time.”
Alex Cunningham, MP for Stockton North, tweeted: “More people than ever for Remembrance Sunday today. Strong evangelical sermon  from Alan Farrish on sacrifice and losing a child.”

More than 300 members of the armed forces joined veterans in Sunderland today for the city's annual Remembrance Service and Parade, as hundreds of serving members of the armed forces travel from across the UK to take part in the parade from Sunderland Civic Centre to the city's War Memorial in Burdon Road, alongside hundreds of veterans from past conflict.

Legions of residents marched through the streets of Darlington this morning to pay their respects to the fallen heroes of the World Wars.

From elderly veterans to young cadets and children from Scout and Guide groups, hundreds joined the Remembrance Sunday parade from Holy Trinity Church on Woodland Road to the cenotaph at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

The act of remembrance was followed by wreath-laying at the cenotaph by civic dignitaries including Darlington Mayor Paul Baldwin and MP Jenny Chapman as well as representatives from various local charities and associations.
