A1 northbound reopens after fire crews clear floodwater

THE A1 northbound has reopened after earlier being closed because of flooding.

The road was shut northbound near Catterick Village, in North Yorkshire, to allow fire crews on to the carriageway to pump water off the road, however it reopened at 3pm. Police say one lane remains closed.

The southbound carriageway remains open, although there is considerable standing water. Motorists have reported a nine-mile tailback.

Last month, the A1 was closed for nearly two days after torrential rain collected on the road near Catterick Village.

The closure prompted renewed calls for the Government to upgrade a 12-mile stretch in North Yorkshire known as the ‘missing link’.

Once again we are cut off from the rest of the country. The only region NOT connected to the national motorway network. 18 years of Tories, 13 years of Labour and almost 3 years of Coalition. None of them care about us. None.

They ain't bovvered mate, none of them, and UKIP will be no different.
We don't even have a dual carrigeway all the way to Scotland let alone a motrrway.
It's not just Scotland that needs independence, we do, Durham used to be a palatinate, let's go for independence from south yorks to scottish borders.

Its an absolute scandal that major infrastructure such as this fails repeatadly which is vital to the economy and region thanks to underinvestment and undermaintenance! Makes you wonder what would happen if a MAJOR disaster should happen, yu would be on your own! Heads should roll but wont, even if they did they would be in line for a huge taxpayer payout and pension, being rewarded for failure as we always seem to see nowadays (apart from the minions who get nothing).

Floodline concerns … the failure of council cabinet bosses and the highways agencies to take notice promptly and sort out the roadside drainage systems that bring havoc to our roads whenever it rains for more than 12 hours … neglect and incompetence beit it water, snow, ice or subsidence,
Councils just fail us all completely … floods and more floods makes one feel the councils don’t really know or care about how to cleans drains, the majority of which are filled or surrounded with weeds, grass cuttings, stones, grit and general rubbish that have accumulated because for 364 days each year they do not get cleaned … same goes for becks, streams and rivers that are given one dredging per year usually only after floods have began … in my view this kind of makes councils responsible for such fiascos and failings and must be made to pay compensation IF only because of their neglect and incompetence to accept responsibility for residents safety !
I’m surprised the Labourites and the Union activists have not blamed the Coalition Government for all this rain !
