A BISHOP Auckland supermarket is taking part in a major appeal to provide food for families in need this Christmas.
Tesco Extra, on West Auckland Industrial Estate, has joined forces with FoodShare and the Trussell Trust to hold a food collection in store on Saturday, December 1, and Sunday, December 2.
Tesco stores across the North-East are taking part in the Help Feed People in Need appeal, which will provide food for thousands of people in the region.
It comes as research by Marketing Science reveals one in ten people in the North-East have skipped meals, gone without food to feed their family or relied on friends for food in the last year.
This weekend, shoppers are asked to donate items from their weekly shop and Tesco will top up total donations by 30 per cent.
