CHILDREN using a playground have been endangered by thugs who removed bolts from play equipment, police said.

Cleveland Police are appealing for information about the damage at the Summerhill Country Park in Hartlepool, saying that it could have been dangerous had no-one noticed.

During the course of November and December, bolts have been removed from the slide, other bolts have been tampered with, and the supporting pole for the swings has been removed.

PC Lorene Haworth said: “The damage to the play area is irresponsible and could have been dangerous to children using the park if it had gone unnoticed.

"Hartlepool Borough Council has been left to incur the costs of making the equipment safe again. We would encourage anyone who may have information regarding the identity of those responsible for the damage to contact police before someone gets hurt.

Police and other agencies are increasing patrols in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Lorene Haworth on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-55-111.
