A THIEF attempted to steal a horse box from near a school at about the same time as another animal trailer was taken.
Police are investigating the two incidents which occurred in the Evenwood and Ramshaw area last week.
The thief attempted to steal a large, white Ford Cargo horse box parked on Oaks bank in Evenwood opposite Ramshaw Junior School.
The would-be thief entered the vehicle and snapped off the barrel ignition between 7.30pm on Friday, December 14, and 9am the following day.
A horse box was reported stolen from Ramshaw at a similar time.
Anyone with information is urged to contact PC Ian Marley at Bishop Auckland police station via the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
